Are you tired of the hassle of cooking rice on the stove top? Timing it just right so that your rice is warm and ready when your meal is done? The struggle is real!
Enter, the rice cooker!
Some may scoff at the idea of owning a rice cooker. After all, isn’t it just a unitasker? Won’t a stove top and a pot full of water suffice?
I will admit, I was one of those folks, but then I purchased a premium rice cooker.
More specifically, I purchased a Zojirush 5.5 cup rice cooker with an induction heating system (it also comes in a 10 cup version). I haven’t looked back since! This review aims to assist potential buyers in their decision-making process.
I love induction because it offers precise temperature control, faster cooking times, and immediate adjustments to temperature changes.
Having perfectly cooked rice is essential for me, as I enjoy having it as a side to many of my meals. Whether I’m preparing a simple stir fry or an elaborate curry, rice is a staple that completes the dish. There’s something truly satisfying about a fluffy bed of rice!

Rice Cooker vs. Stove Top
Cooking rice on the stove top can be a pain. While it appears to be a relatively simple process, timing the cooking of your rice so it’s nice and warm when the rest of your meal is done is where a rice cooker shines.
Zojirushi rice cookers have the ability to keep rice warm and at a food safe temperature for hours without overcooking it. With the convenient keep warm function, you can confidently focus on preparing the main dish, knowing that the rice cooker will maintain the perfect temperature for your rice. This feature allows for seamless multitasking in the kitchen.
Zojirushi vs. Regular Rice Cooker
Prior to owning the Zojiurushi, I bought a simple rice cooker that was much cheaper. This rice cooker lacked the advanced features and technology found in the Zojirushi model. As a result, I often ended up with rice that was either too mushy or too crunchy, which was quite disappointing.
Zojirushi Micom machines come equipped with “fuzzy logic” technology. This allows the rice cooker to adjust temperature and cooking time based on various variables. It ensures that even if you accidentally add too much liquid, your rice won’t turn into mush.
The induction model I have has a triple heater system, which generates heat from the bottom, side, and lid for even heating. The pot itself is well made, thick, and features a durable nonstick coating.
While exact programs will differ depending on what model you buy, the Zojirushi induction rice cooker is capable of cooking white rice (regular, softer, or harder), jasmine rice, mixed rice, sushi rice, porridge, sweet rice, brown rice, and GABA brown rice.
Washing rice is essential for removing excess starch and achieving well-defined grains. With a Zojirushi rice cooker, it’s a simple process: place rice in a pot, fill with water, agitate to remove starch, then drain through a fine mesh strainer. Repeat until water runs clear for perfectly cleaned rice.
With the Zojirushi, I get the perfect texture everytime. And getting the right proportion of rice to water is a breeze because the pot includes clearly marked measurements, making it easy to add the right amount of water for every scoop of rice.
Speaking of scoops of rice, Zojirushi doesn’t use a typical North American cup as a unit of measure; instead it uses a 180 mL gō, a traditional Japanese measurement. This contrasts with the 236.6 mL North American standard cup.
If you’re worried about losing your rice measuring cup, don’t worry. They are easily replaced. I personally prefer using the OXO rice measuring cup attachment, which attaches nicely under the lid of my go to rice container: the OXO Pop 2.7 Qt rectangle container.
The machine overall is easy to keep clean thanks to its detachable bowl, lid, and filter. This allows these parts to be washed separately.
If you want consistently good rice without needing to worry about timing your rice, I highly recommend the Zojirushi line of rice cookers. If you really want an upgrade, be sure to check out the 5.5 cup Zojirushi Pressure Induction Rice Cooker (it also comes in a 10 cup model). It comes with all the features of the regular induction model, but the pressurized cooking method helps turn beta starch into alpha starch for softer and easier to digest rice.
I hope you found this review of the Zojirushi Induction Rice cooker useful. If you need anymore clarification on this rice cooker, don’t hesitate to ask a question in the comments below.
