How to Organize Your Kitchen Pantry

Who doesn’t love a well-stocked and organized pantry? It's a great place to store all the dry goods that we use every day and your small appliances that you don’t want cluttering your countertops. However, over time, it can become disorganized and messy with empty boxes and expired food.

Who doesn’t love a well-stocked and organized pantry? It’s a great place to store all the dry goods that we use every day and your small appliances that you don’t want cluttering your countertops. However, over time, it can become disorganized and messy with empty boxes and expired food. It quickly becomes a dumping ground for everything kitchen related! We’re guilty of it too! The best way to keep your pantry organized is by following a few simple steps:

Swap the Packaging

Replace the original mismatched spice containers you’ve been using for years with their more attractive storage containers to make your pantry look more uniform and organized. OXO Pop containers are our favorite storage containers for restocking pantry items.

Consolidate Your Pantry Items

Get creative with your storage solutions by grouping similar food items together in nice containers. Try storing your dried fruit in a basket and your tea bags in a box. If you want to make sure that everything is easily accessible when you are cooking, try organizing the pantry using clear bins so that you can see all of the contents without having to rummage through them. The best part of this idea is that you can easily swap out your baskets, boxes, or bins seasonally.

Label it!

Labels will help you find what you need, help prevent accidental contamination of food, and can display expiry dates more clearly. You can use either a label maker or printable labels for this task.

For our labels, we use a simple label maker. It creates uniform labels that are easy to read and that are removable. Label makers, like the one linked above, have relatively inexpensive cartridges. You can also purchase pre-printed transparent handwriting-style pantry labels. If you have nice handwriting, you may want to try chalk-style labels.

If using a label maker, be sure that the font size is large enough for items to stand out when you’re looking for them. Colour coding is another way to group certain foods and have an easy system of categorizing.

Keeping Your Pantry Organized Is Easy and Rewarding

Of course, there are many ways to organize your pantry. The key is to find what works for you and to stick with it. If you find yourself getting frustrated with this process, take a break from it or do one shelf at a time.

It might help to start over again by clearing off all surfaces and rethinking where everything goes so that it makes sense in your life. In the end, we hope these tips have helped give you some ideas on how to make your pantry more efficient so that next time you need sprinkles for your ice cream party or rosemary for your holiday turkey, they’ll be easily accessible and still fresh!
