Last year, I upgraded my Breville Barista Express to the Breville Oracle Touch. One of the main reasons for this upgrade was that I was getting fed up with cleaning up the coffee grounds that inevitably spill out of the portafilter and onto my countertop and floor. While this wasn’t the only reason for my upgrade, I’ve certainly noticed a difference as the Oracle Touch comes with an auto tamper that avoids this mess all together.
Luckily you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on an upgrade if this is your only beef with your manual tamping Breville espresso machine. You can now purchase a funnel that easily attaches to your portafilter; you simply grind beans through the funnel and into the filter basket. This allows you to avoid the spill over when it comes time to tamp!
