Adding Smoke Flavor to Hamburgers on the Ninja Woodfire

Fired up and ready to explore the Ninja Woodfire, my first experiment involved grilling some hamburger patties made from ground chuck beef. With a cooking time of just eight minutes, I wasn’t sure how much the wood flavor would permeate the patties. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

To my delight, the Ninja Woodfire effortlessly infused the burgers with a distinct and delicious smokiness. It was neither overpowering nor disappointingly faint. Instead, it struck a harmonious balance, enhancing the overall flavor.

Slow Smoking Ribs on the Ninja Woodfire

After my success with the hamburgers, I wanted to try something that I could cook more slowly so that I could develop a stronger and richer smoke flavor. Of course, I’m talking about ribs!

I dialed in the Ninja Woodfire to its “smoker” setting and set it to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. To develop a rich flavor profile, I opted for the “robust blend” wood pellets that Ninja provides with the grill. This blend is a harmonious fusion of hickory, cherry, maple, and oak, resulting in a robust and rich flavor. .

Two hours later, with a single turn halfway through, it was time to finally try the ribs!

The results were delicious. The ribs were tender, were infused with rich smoked flavor, and a delicious bark was formed during the slow cook. For the effort I put into these ribs, they were definitely worth it!

Outdoor Air Fried Chicken Wings on the Ninja Woodfire

When it comes to snacking, chicken wings hold a special place in my heart. They embody the perfect balance between convenience and delectable indulgence. That’s why I will always take the time to carefully craft exceptional wings. Whether I opt for a saucy or dry rendition, the sheer variety of flavor options makes chicken wings a versatile and truly fantastic snack.

For my first batch of wings in the Ninja Woodfire, I whipped up a maple chipotle marinade, allowing the flavors to intermingle and work their magic on the chicken wings over the course of several hours. Once it was time to cook, I turned on the Ninja Woodfire to the “air crisp” option, which functions as an outdoor air fryer. I ignited a handful of Ninja’s “robust blend” wood pellets and set the temperature to a sizzling 390 degrees Fahrenheit before putting the marinated wings in the air frying basket. After just 30 minutes of cooking time, the wings emerged from the Ninja Woodfire with a perfect crispy finish and a rich smoky flavor.

The results were spectacular! The marriage of heat, sweetness, and rich smokiness created a complex flavor profile that lingered on my tongue long after I ate the last chicken wing.

Adding Smoke to Vegetables on the Ninja Woodfire

Not only can you smoke meat and poultry, you can also smoke vegetables! In order to test out vegetables, I used the “All Purpose” blend of wood pellets provided by Ninja. These pellets contain cherry, maple, and oak, resulting in a balanced, mild, bright, and sweet flavor.

I chose three different vegetables: corn on the cob, red onions, and broccoli. All three required similar cooking times, so I coated them all in vegetable oil, seasoned them with salt and pepper, and threw them all into the air fryer basket at the same time. I dialed in the Ninja Woodfire to the “air crisp” setting at 390 degrees Fahrenheit and cooked the vegetables for 15 minutes.

As I indulged in each bite, a mild, yet impeccably balanced, smoky flavor was detected in the vegetables, adding an intriguing new dimension to their flavors. Grilling alone could never achieve this level of complexity. However, if there had to be a star of the show, it was undoubtedly the corn. Bursting with juiciness and infused with the perfect level of smokiness, it emerged as the champion.

The Ninja Woodfire showed me that even the humblest of veggies can be transformed with just a little bit of smoke!

Overall Impressions of the Ninja Woodfire

Overall, the Ninja Woodfire has allowed me to explore the world of smoking food without requiring a lot of effort on my end. It is a great way to add additional flavor and menu options to your summer barbeque. It’s like a sidekick that will set your summer barbeques apart from others!

I recommend this grill for anyone looking to get their feet wet with smoking food. If you are a little more experienced or want to upgrade from the Ninja Woodfire, I recommend looking at the Traeger line of grills. These grills come in much larger sizes, such as the Ironwood and Timberline, allowing you to cook for a crowd! Traegar also sells the Ranger which is a similar size as the Ninja Woodfire.

Be sure to read our in-depth comparison of Ninja and Traeger.

I hope you enjoyed my review. If you have a Ninja Woodfire, what’s your favorite thing to cook on it? Let me know in the comments below!

Nice article!

I have a question. Does the Ninja Woodfire Grill fit inside the storage compartment of the Keter Unity XL?

Unfortunately it does not. I simply leave a cover on the Woodfire and it’s survived several heavy thunderstorms in Calgary we’ve had this Spring/Summer. I’ll likely bring in the unit over winter though, even though it promises to be all-weather. It’s built well and has everything you’d expect on an outdoor electrical appliance.

I will however store the detachable grill top and air fryer basket in the Keter XL Unity, as I usually have the Woodfire wrapped up in it’s cover when I’m done cleaning the pans.
