I was recently able to get my hands on a Gevi Nugget Ice Maker, a countertop nugget ice maker. When the folks at Gevi first reached out to me, I have to admit, I had to Google what nugget ice was exactly.

What is Nugget Ice?

Nugget ice, also known as crunchy, chewable, and pebble ice, are small ice nuggets that are soft and chewable; popularized by Sonic and Chick-Fil-A. This soft and chewable texture is made possible thanks to the fact that the nuggets are made from compacted ice flakes. Not only is nugget ice soft and chewable, it also has a porous texture, perfect for taking on the drink’s flavours. No wonder why it’s so popular!

Luckily you can now make nugget ice at home thanks to companies like Gevi who offer nugget ice machines.

Gevi Ice Maker Review

Gevi’s Nugget Ice Machine promises to make ice in just 15 minutes; something that matches my experience with the machine. While you won’t have a full ice basket, after approximately 15 minutes, you’ll start to have some nuggets that you can immediately use in your drink. One downside is that it can take a while to fill up the basket to full capacity. As an added bonus, the housing is insulated so you don’t have to worry about your ice melting.

The machine is easy to use with just two simple buttons and 4 lights to indicate when the ice basket is full, when water is needed, when cleaning is needed, and when the ice machine is currently processing ice.

If you want to hook up the ice machine directly to a water line, you can do so! Or you can just fill up the 2.8 litre reservoir with regular tap water. The choice is yours.

The nugget ice produced from this machine was just like the nugget ice you find at restaurants; soft and chewable!

If you’re looking to make nugget ice at home, be sure to check out the Gevi Nugget Ice Maker.
